Toward a better understanding of multifunctional cement-based materials: The impact of graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs)

The impact of graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) on the physical and mechanical properties cementitious nanocomposites was investigated. A market-available premixed mortar modified with 0.01% by weight cement commercial GNPs characterized two distinctively different aspect ratios. rheological behavior GNP-modified fresh admixtures thoroughly evaluated. Hardened were investigated in terms density, microstructure (Scanning Electron Microscopy, SEM micro–Computed Tomography, μ-CT), (three-point bending compression tests), (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, EIS thermal conductivity measurements). At 28 days, all mortars showed about 12% increased density. Mortars reinforced high ratio exhibited highest compressive flexural strength: 14% 4% improvements compared to control sample, respectively. Conversely, low led 36% decreased electrical resistivity combined 60% respect sample.
